What EarthBi is

EarthBi is an innovative biobased, biodegradable and compostable polymer obtained from biomass derived from natural waste (such as sugar cane, wheat, corn).

EarthBi is the “tailor-made” solution for the customer.

Thanks to our technology and the developed know-how, both internally and in synergy with Italian scientists and universities, EarthBi is able to meet the most different needs. Its production process takes place through the use of renewable raw materials and does not require pure materials.

EarthBi bioplastic can be used in company plants dedicated to the traditional processing of plastic without any modification. In fact, it is possible to convert the biopolymer in the normal transformation facilities of plastics of fossil origin, without necessity of particular changes to the existing structures.

Through a distinct heating process, the biopolymer can also be recovered and recycled, without chemical components, in a highly virtuous industrial cycle.

Grades and products available

EarthBi wants to be a useful solution for partners who choose to use it, and at the same time an idea of the future that can improve the livability of the Planet.

The different grades of EarthBi for extrusion and thermoforming are polymers with the highest molecular weight available on the market, therefore they have a very low Melt Flow Index (MFI).
All grades are characterized by a different melting point and a lower degree of crystallinity. The extremes of this category are represented by the grade EXT 004 and EXT 404.

It is possible to produce intermediate or ad hoc grades with substantial changes in both fluidity and crystallinity, depending on the characteristics of the relative supply orders.

Grades

• EarthBi EXT 004
This grade is made from lactide with the highest degree of purity (D-lactide <0.3%). Thanks to its very high molecular weight, it can be used in extrusion and thermoforming, but also in other processing areas, when there is the need to obtain a particularly rigid product and that can develop a high crystallinity (up to 50-60%).

EarthBi EXT 404
This grade, while maintaining a high molecular weight like its counterpart EXT 004, uses a lactide of lower optical purity (D-lactide = 4%). The presence of D-lactide in the polymer decreases the rigidity of the article and allows for considerably less crystallinity.

This also results in a lower melting point and makes it suitable for all applications where a greater presence of amorphous phase is privileged. The lower melting point (158 ° C) also allows the use of this grade when a high molecular weight is required but, at the same time, a high fluidity of the melt which in the case of EXT 004 would mean bringing the extrusion temperature too high values with consequent degradation of the polymer.

The spinning processes are manifold (fiber spinning, continous filament, melt blown, spun bonded) and each has its own characteristics, just as it requires different specifications of the polymer used. For example, very different fluidity indices, different thermal characteristics in terms of melting temperature and / or glass transition and still different yielding abilities may be required.

EarthBi can satisfy the various requests of the sector and be structured according to needs, always depending on the characteristics of the relative supply orders. In any case, the grade believed to be of general use in this sector is always available, or FS 203 which has characteristics of fluidity, crystallinity and mechanical properties resulting suitable for the production of fibers in the traditional sense (spinning and drawing in two steps).

Grades

• EarthBi FS 203
Can be used for spinning fibers, staple fibers and continuous filaments. It is characterized by a fluidity index suitable for normal capillary flow conditions, withstands high stretching ratios, has high molecular weight, high melting temperature and high crystallinity.

The different grades of EarthBi for injection molding are polymers with molecular weight, and therefore with a fluidity index (MFI), suitable for the conditions of injection molding.
The different grades are characterized by a different melting point, a lower degree of crystallinity and a more or less high fluidity index. The extremes of this category are represented by the grade IM 001 and IM 502. 

It is possible to produce intermediate or ad hoc grades with substantial changes in both fluidity and crystallinity depending on the characteristics of the relative supply orders. Furthermore, on request, it is possible to provide particularly fluid grades in the molding conditions when it is necessary to produce objects of large mass and / or with a high surface while maintaining adequate mechanical strength.

EarthBi IM 001
This grade is made from lactide with the highest degree of purity (D-lactide <0.3%). Thanks to its low molecular weight, it can be used in injection molding, but also in other processing areas, when there is the need to obtain a particularly rigid product that can develop a high crystallinity (up to 50-60%) if printed with hot mold (T> 100 ° C).

EarthBi IM 502
Suitable for injection molding when less crystallinity or amorphous applications are required if cold molded. The higher molecular weight allows it to be used even in stretch-blow molding applications and when greater performance of the product in the amorphous state is required. Excellent transparency.
